If marijuana is legal in Nevada why do I need a medical card?
Nevada’s medical cannabis program has been around for a while, and the state’s rules haven’t changed. If you need cannabis for a medical condition, the program gives you some breaks and help. The reason is that medical marijuana cards are meant for people who need to use cannabis as medicine to relieve medical conditions. Here are some of the differences between adult-use and medical use of marijuana in Nevada and reasons why you might need a medical card:
• Medical card holders don’t have to pay 10% retail excise tax
• You can be under age 21 and use medical cannabis if you have a designated primary caregiver over age 21
• You can possess up to 2.5 ounces of cannabis in a 14-day period
• You can grow your own marijuana (up to 6 plants per person or 12 plants per household) if dispensaries don’t have the strain you are prescribed.
• Adult users (non-medical) can grow their own cannabis (6 plants per person/12 per household)only if they live more than 25 miles from a dispensary
