Medical FAQs
How do I get a medical cannabis card in New York and become a patient?
There are two steps to becoming a certified patient for medical cannabis
Get Certified. Contact your healthcare provider to see if medical cannabis may help. Your healthcare provider will give you the certification if medical cannabis is appropriate for your condition.
Purchase medical cannabis. Visit a registered organization’s medical cannabis dispensing facility with your printed patient certification (or display it on your smart device) and a government-issued photo ID to purchase the product.
Registry-
Patient Certifications now contain their registry ID.
Removes the requirement for patients to file a registration via MCDMS.
Patients don't have to wait for registrations to be approved.
Lessen the time spent by RO dispensary staff assisting patients with registration.
Allows patients to go directly from the certifying health care provider to the dispensary to purchase products.
Plastic registry ID cards are no longer being produced.
Temporary and permanent registry ID cards will no longer be issued.
Existing registry ID cards remain active until the patient certification is edited, extended, or expires.
Patients who need to change their name or address should contact their certifying healthcare providers to update their certification.
